[CPU] Re-seating the CPU
Possible Problems
- System does not power on
- No video display when system powers on
- System hangs at BIOS screen
- System reboots instead of loading the Operating System
Solution
- CPU is defective
- Motherboard CPU socket pins are bent
- Separate article if defective CPU unit (for multiple CPU systems)
Access your motherboard by removing whatever cover or panels needed. Not all barebone/chassis/cases are all the same. The examples shown here may not match your system, but the procedure is similar.
- Access your System's Motherboard
- Remove Air Shroud (if system has it installed)
- Remove heat sink off the CPU
- Dismount CPU hold-down frame
There are two clips that hold down the CPU. - CAREFULLY remove CPU from socket
- Inspect Motherboard CPU socket pins
