[Memory] Reseating RAM
Possible Problems
- No video display when system powers on
- System hangs at BIOS screen
- System reboots instead of loading the Operating System
- Intermittent system process hangs
Solution
- RAM not plugged in properly
- Separate article if there is a possible defective stick of RAM
Access your motherboard by removing whatever cover or panels needed. Not all barebone/chassis/cases are all the same. The examples shown here may not match your system, but the procedure is similar.
Access your System's Motherboard
Dismount sticks of RAM using the (Hold-down) clips
Some motherboards have 1 or 2 clips for each stick RAM, both examples are shown here.
Examples:
Single Clip
Double Clip
Firmly plug in sticks of RAM until the clips 'click' into place
Should receive 1 click per clip.
Example of Correct RAM seating:
Power on your system to see if problem is fixed
If you are able to access your BIOS settings, be sure to check within the BIOS Settings to ensure ALL sticks of RAM are visible.
Example:
Pressing the 'Del' key will typically allow you to enter the BIOS Settings during System POST. Memory Topology in your BIOS Settings is an option to see what sticks of RAM are properly installed on your motherboard.
