The method in which on/offboard video is set differs by manufacturer; please see below
Instructions
Regardless of what machine you are using BIOS needs to be accessed. (Press del/F2 during BOOT)
Follow the paths below for each of the specific manufacturers
- ASUS
- IntelRCSetup > Miscellaneous Configuration > Active Video
- SuperMicro
- PCIe/PCI/PnP > VGA Priority > On/Offboard
- Tyan
- CORRECT = Platform Configuration > Miscellaneous Configuration > Active Video
- WRONG = Advanced > Onboard Device Configuration >
(The WRONG method will disable VGA all together defaulting the system to OFFBOARD; this could result in a CMOS reset should the GPU ever be removed)
Learning Point:
ESSD-2474 -
Customer called in and was adding additional GPUs they purchased outside of Exxact to their system.
We initially sent out the system with 2 GPUs installed in PCIE8 and PCIE10.
After confirming the GPUs were identical to what they bought through us, the customer complained that the system did not fully boot with additional cards installed.
Root Cause:
As GPUs were added a lower numbered PCIE slot was being used and primary video was being directed to the lowest number slot populated.
