'hiberfil.sys' saves is a system file dedicated to saving the current state (memory) state of the PC when going into Hibernation mode. The file size adapts to how much RAM (memory) your PC contains. 

Step-by-step guide

  1. Run 'CMD' (Command Prompt) as Administrator

    Right click 'Start' button for Windows 8.1/10 for this shortcut

  2. Enter the following command: 'powercfg -h off'

  3. Hibernate option should not appear anymore in Shut down menu, and the system file should not appear anymore in 'Local Disk (C:)'
